What is dental surgery?

Dental surgery is the surgical specialty that includes diagnosis, surgery and treatments related to a large aspect of diseases, injuries and aesthetic aspects of the mouth and teeth.

Benefits of dental surgery

  • Replace missing teeth in cases where there is not enough bone.
  • Remove the teeth that cause pain or discomfort.
  • Improve the aesthetics of the teeth.

Treatments

Exodontia
It is a surgical act with which a tooth or a part of it that is embedded in the alveolus is extracted.
Wisdom teeth
Usually, they emerge from the gums between 17 and 24 years of age. In many cases extraction is recommended. In others, conservation is chosen.
Tissue graft
It is a procedure that involves removing a piece of gum from an area of the mouth where it abounds and placing it in an area where it is needed.
Crown lengthening
It is the remodeling of the contour of the tissues of the gum and, often, of the underlying bone, around one or more teeth so that the sufficient structure of the dental piece is exposed.
Breast lift
Breast lift is a surgical technique that is used in those cases in which there is not enough bone to place the implants in the maxilla.
Bone grafts
Bone grafts are blocks of bone that are used as an alternative in those cases in which there is not enough bone in height and / or width to place the dental implants, both in the upper and lower jaw.

FAQ's

Who is it for?

The indications for surgery vary depending on the type of pathology that the patient has or the type of treatment required.

Is the treatment painful?

During the procedure there is no pain or discomfort (only the pressure is felt) since it is done using local anesthesia. Even so, it is completely normal to feel some discomfort in the days after treatment. These discomforts are perfectly controllable with the medication that the dentist will prescribe. If the discomfort persists despite the medication, you can always call the consultation and clarify your doubts.

Can sedation be done?

Yes, we recommend that this surgery be performed under dental sedation provided by our team of anesthetists, for greater patient comfort.

How long should I wait to get the dental implants after I have had the bone insert?

It depends to a large extent on the amount and quality of bone that has been placed. In some cases, implants are placed in the same surgery. In other cases, you should wait between 3 and 9 months until the new bone is integrated. Consult your Abaden dentist to find out what your case is.

Will I be able to live a normal life after the operation? Eat and drink?

Yes, your doctor will prescribe the medication so that you do not have pain after the operation and it will indicate what kind of food you can eat and drink. In general, it is recommended not to drink very hot drinks or very hard foods after surgery.
